Apple and Samsung have signed a deal which will see the latter manufacture OLED 
screens for future iPhones.

The Korean company will deliver 100 million 5.5–inch displays annually, according
 to a report from The Korea Herald. The deal is said to be worth $2.59 billion
 (£1.83 billion).

The move suggests that this year’s iPhone 7 will continue to feature the LCD tech
 found in current iPhones, but that the OLED screens will be introduced for 2017's
 iPhone 7S.

That means the iPhone 7 is likely to lag behind Samsung’s own Galaxy S7, as well as
 LG’s G5 when it comes to screen brightness.

OLED tech doesn’t require backlighting like LCDs and is designed to offer 
improved brightness without hampering battery life.

The fact that Apple has ordered 5.5–inch panels from Samsung flies in the face 
of rumours suggesting it's planning an iPhone with a 5.8–inch, curved screen.

Analysts had claimed that the curved iPhone would be released next year.
